Questions & Answers
About Wills Registry UK
Q Why should I register?
A Registering on Wills Registry UK virtually eliminates the chances of your will not being found, saving your executors and beneficiaries the massive hassle and cost of probate, and ensuring your wishes are fulfilled.
Q How much does it cost to register?
A Registering on Wills Registry UK is FREE for life. You can log in and update your details whenever you wish.
Q What information do I register?
A A few details to identify yourself, details of where your will is lodged, and if you wish details of your living will, deeds and power of attorney declaration may be found.
Q How do I know my documents are safe?
A You do not send us the documents themselves, you simply register the location where they are lodged, such as your solicitor, your bank or a trusted friend.
Q Are my details secure?
A Yes. Your account is protected by a secure password system.
Q Who is allowed to see my record?
A People requesting your record are asked to declare that they are legally authorised to do so because they are your solicitor, executors, close relatives, those with power of attorney and, in the case of living wills, your doctor.
However we cannot guarantee the identity of people conducting searches, thus you should NOT enter your home address or any other confidential information into your account.
Q Surely a national wills database already exists?
A Surprisingly, no. You can lodge your will with your local probate registry, but it costs £15 and few people know of the service, so it is still advisable to register. There is nowhere to register your other legal documents such as your your living will, deeds and power of attorney.
Q I haven't made a will, can I still register?
A Yes. In addition to wills, we can hold details of your living will, deeds and power of attorney.
Q Can I register on someone else's behalf?
A Yes you can but you MUST obtain their express permission first. When registering, be sure to complete the 'proposer's details' section.
