About Wills Registry UK

Wills Registry UK — the only place to register Wills in the UK.

Wills Registry UK has been set up so that all Wills can be registered online, and administrators and executors of a deceased estate will be able to discover whether the deceased has left a Will.

Missing Wills can be a costly headache and the next of kin or beneficiaries may believe the deceased has drawn up a Will but do not have a copy of it or do not know which solicitor currently holds the original.

At the moment for executors or administrators there is no foolproof method of discovering whether a will has been made, when it was made or where it is located. If a valid Will is found then the deceased estate may be distributed to his/her family, friends or charities as set out in their Will. But if no Will is found, then the estate is divided up as set out by the courts, which could result in higher inheritance tax being paid and even worse it could go the Treasury. Wills Registry UK has been designed to avoid this from happening.

Wills Registry UK will make the administration of the estate run more efficiently, by helping to locate if and where a Will is located. Individuals, solicitors and banks will be strongly encouraged to make registering of the Will part of their routine practice.

Registering a Will is free. You may also register your Power of Attorney, Living Will, the whereabouts of your important Deeds, and even your organ donation documents may be registered online free.

There is no question of the documents not being safe, as these documents are not actually deposited only the fact that they exist and where they may be found if and when needed. For example they may be located with a particular solicitor, bank or trusted friend.

A search of the Will Registry database is merely £10.00, plus VAT.

A search will reveal whether any one of the names that you are searching has registered a Will You do not need to pay for the search until you confirm that the initial results are those that you are looking for. You can then go on to request the contact details, as permitted by the person who registered their details.

There is also no risk to your confidentiality in terms of what your will contains, because those details are not registered.

"Our mission is never again will a persons estate be distributed using the tedious and inflexible statutory rules because a Will cannot be found," states founding director and lawyer Roy McKenzie.

"We are confident that this database will become the most important port of call for all matters to do with Wills".
